Ferrari’s 2026 must be a season where they take center stage, and Fred Vasseur knows he can’t afford any mistakes. However, the Ferrari team principal believes the FIA should also support the Maranello team.
Ferrari is continuing its work on the 2026 car, with data correlation from other tests, says Fred Vasseur. With the major regulatory overhaul of 2026 drawing closer, Frederic Vasseur is urging Formula 1 to keep a clear head. Speaking to the media after the Chinese Grand Prix, the Ferrari team principal stressed the importance of not being swayed by self-interest.
Ferrari at risk of falling behind
“The proposal to reduce hybrid power to 200 kW only came in yesterday; I haven’t had a chance to discuss it with the engine team yet,” Fred Vasseur explained. “But we must remain open-minded. What’s coming isn’t just an update, it’s a revolution: engine, chassis, sporting regulations… everything is changing at once.” – the French manager pointed out.
According to Ferrari team boss, this is exactly the time when teams need to focus on the collective good rather than their own interests: “If everyone thinks only of themselves, Formula 1 will suffer the consequences. It’s essential that we work together and not turn every discussion into a fight.”
Fred Vasseur also pointed out that the risk of unwanted consequences for Ferrari’s 2026 car is already real: “Even today, we’ve seen a significant increase in car weight. If we don’t carefully address areas like the chassis and energy management, we could end up facing even bigger problems.” – he added.
Next Thursday, at the F1 Commission, teams will discuss the matter in more detail. Fred Vasseur, however, prefers to look at the bright side: “So far the atmosphere has been positive, with open dialogue. Now we need to find a compromise that truly serves the best interests of Formula 1.”
