Scuderia Ferrari Monegasque driver Charles Leclerc talks about the strength of the SF90 car, the fastest lap point and whether the Maranello team solved their reliability problems ahead of the 2019 Australian Grand Prix:
What’s the best thing about being a Ferrari driver?
Charles Leclerc: “That I know that I have a car with which I can win races. It feels great to be here with Ferrari. But when I’m sitting in the car, the emotionality disappears and I’m completely focused on my job. I know that I have still a lot to learn. At the same time I think: In 2018 I was more nervous when I started my Formula 1 career here in Melbourne. Because I knew that I was at the very beginning of my career. I’m better prepared than I was a year ago. I feel very comfortable in the SF90, but it’s hard to compare that. I have spent several weeks with Ferrari now. We were also in the mountains with a few employees to get to know each other better.”
About the fastest lap point
“Generally, you don’t want to risk a position on the race track. But if you have a comfortable advantage over the next driver, I can imagine that someone will try that.”
About whether Ferrari solved their reliability problems
“We are convinced yes. But in the end only the work on the race track will show whether this is true. In Barcelona you drive on the same track for four days and then you come to Melbourne, and everything is different. Let’s see how it will be on Friday. But we are optimistic.”
What is the strength of the SF90?
“The good balance in every driving situation and the drivability of the engine. And I can’t wait to prove it here at the Albert Park.”
