In the two weeks between the 2025 British Grand Prix at Silverstone and the upcoming Belgian Grand Prix at Spa-Francorchamps, Scuderia Ferrari has been at the centre of attention, largely due to a much-discussed filming day held at the Mugello circuit. During that session, it appears that the long-awaited new rear suspension system made its debut—a component expected to be seen in full competitive action for the first time at the Spa circuit this weekend.
The Maranello-based team hopes that this private testing session may have marked the end of a turbulent phase in their campaign—a phase from which it has proven particularly difficult to emerge. Since the beginning of the 2025 Formula 1 season, the SF-25 has shown itself to be a particularly sensitive car when it comes to setup changes. Its performance window—especially in relation to the ideal ride height and underfloor aerodynamic behaviour—has been extremely narrow. Engineers at Ferrari now believe that the new suspension solution could be the answer to these limitations, although it will take several race weekends to determine whether the issue has truly been resolved.
Introducing this upgrade at the Belgian Grand Prix was considered essential for Ferrari. With this race and the next one before the summer break, the team now has two consecutive Grands Prix to gather critical data and optimise the revised package. The goal is to be well prepared for the restart of the season, which will begin at the end of August with the Dutch Grand Prix in Zandvoort, followed immediately by their highly anticipated home race at Monza.
Fred Vasseur: “We must start off on the right foot and focus on the details”
Within the Scuderia Ferrari camp, there seems to be a cautiously optimistic atmosphere. Team Principal Frédéric Vasseur has urged the team to approach the Belgian Grand Prix weekend with maximum focus and attention to detail. “The Belgian Grand Prix is the first of two remaining events before the summer break,” he stated. “We know we are facing a Sprint weekend, which means we must start off on the right foot and pay extreme attention to every detail from the very beginning. We also need to remember that, since this is Belgium, weather conditions may play a significant role in the outcome of the weekend.”
The French manager also highlighted the importance of the technical updates being introduced in Belgium, describing them as an essential aspect of the team’s weekend plan. “At Maranello, we have worked extremely hard to bring to the track a package of updates that will serve as a crucial element to monitor throughout the Grand Prix weekend. We must ensure we extract the maximum potential from these new components from the very first session,” concluded Frédéric Vasseur.
Ferrari’s performance at Spa will therefore be closely scrutinised, as the team looks to turn the corner in what has so far been an inconsistent and challenging 2025 Formula 1 season.
