Ferrari wants a Formula 1 seat by 2025 for its "future star"

For some time now, the term “silly season” has been circulating in Formula 1. With the cars parked in the factories, August is traditionally a period of driver market movements. In 2023, however, there haven’t been any significant surprises. All current drivers on the grid have been confirmed for the next season, with the exception of Logan Sargeant, who is still awaiting news about his future.

With the 2024 seats now assigned, teams are gearing up to start the ‘chess game’ for the 2025 Formula One championship. Many of the contracts currently in place will expire at the end of the coming year, and teams are keen to secure their drivers well in advance of the 2026 regulatory revolution.

Oliver Bearman in F1: Ferrari Sets the Conditions

In this context, it seems that Ferrari intends to secure one of the two seats at the Haas team. With Kevin Magnussen and Nico Hulkenberg having no contracts for 2025, it appears that Maranello wants to leverage its relationship with the American team to promote Oliver Bearman.

The English driver, born in 2005, joined the Ferrari Driver Academy in 2022 and is currently in sixth place in the Formula 2 general standings.

Rene Rosin, team principal for Oliver Bearman at Prema, has described the young Brit as an “extraordinary talent.” Despite his not-so-prominent position in the standings, it seems that Scuderia Ferrari intends to give him a chance.

However, the Ferrari leadership has set some conditions. Oliver Bearman, in fact, must first contend for the Formula 2 title to earn an F1 seat. Should he secure victory in the season’s final race in Abu Dhabi, following his triumph in Monza, Bearman could climb up the rankings to as high as third place. It would be an excellent starting point for a standout 2024 season, awaiting the big leap to Formula 1.
