After unsuccessfully seeking a Formula 1 seat with every team, Mick Schumacher has no choice but to continue his journey in the WEC for 2025. A respectable career in a highly prestigious motorsport category, but it’s no secret that the German driver hopes to return to single-seater racing, perhaps for personal redemption. In any case, the young Schumacher enjoys a solid reputation in the world of endurance racing, and Ferrari itself had contacted him to replace Robert Shwartzman aboard the #83 AF Corse car. The Russian driver of the Scuderia will be competing in the IndyCar championship with Prema next year, leaving a vacant seat alongside Robert Kubica and Ye Yifei.
However, negotiations fell through due to financial reasons, as reported by the Austrian newspaper Kleine Zeitung. Ferrari had asked Mick Schumacher to bring new sponsors, which the driver was unable to secure. Consequently, Phil Hanson will take the seat in the yellow-red Hypercar, while Mick Schumacher will likely continue with the same commitments as in 2024, serving as Mercedes’ reserve driver and a main driver for Alpine in the WEC. The former Haas driver was also approached by the IndyCar series, but he rejected all offers to remain in European motorsport.
