Ferrari plans to use the remaining 2025 weekends as “tests” for 2026: here’s how
Ferrari intends to approach the remaining weekends of the 2025 season as true “test sessions” for the 2026 car. The Italian team has shifted its focus away from the SF-25 project to fully concentrate on the next-generation car. While development is progressing well, there are still areas that need improvement, and the Scuderia will use the remaining race weekends to experiment and refine various processes.
The Prancing Horse is determined not to make mistakes in the fundamental concepts of the 2026 car. The power unit will play a key role under the new sporting regulations, as the power will be split equally between the electric and internal combustion components. Technical Director Loic Serra is leading a significant overhaul of the suspension system. Together with Fred Vasseur and David Sanchez, the French engineer is shaping the design of the 2026 Ferrari. With Lewis Hamilton nearing the end of his career, the seven-time World Champion is actively helping the team improve all areas currently considered “deficient.” During the United States Grand Prix press conference, the British driver explained his approach.
Hamilton: “Keep what works, change what doesn’t”
“I’m really focused on the next six races. These weekends are the most important test sessions in terms of continuous learning to improve our processes,” said Hamilton. “In recent races, there were a few situations we didn’t fully capitalize on. So the goal is to take what works and continue to build on it. Keep what works and change what doesn’t. That’s what we are trying to do moving forward.”
Lewis Hamilton explained that Ferrari will be on track primarily to test operations and processes that are not yet perfectly executed. While some aspects are already solid, others require refinement. Establishing a direct communication line within the team is crucial for Lewis Hamilton, as it accelerates decision-making and ensures improvements are implemented efficiently. The question remains whether Maranello can successfully make all the necessary changes.
“I believe it’s about continuing to build on relationships and communication. Everyone at the factory really deserves a strong result, and our sole goal is to deliver good performances, to maximize and extract every possible point from our weekends. I truly believe we can achieve it. We stay focused,” Lewis Hamilton concluded.
