Ferrari starts analyzing the active flap on the front wing
The Abu Dhabi tests were far from ordinary end-of-season sessions. They represented a crucial step for teams, giving them the opportunity to start evaluating some of the innovations that will appear next year. Among these, Ferrari focused on the active flap on the front wing, installed on their mule car to begin analyzing a key component of the 2026 car.
Mercedes joins in with active aero system
In the morning, Mercedes also ran on track with a system designed to replicate as accurately as possible the active aerodynamics that will become a fundamental principle of the next season. The FIA has introduced two modes, X-Mode and Z-Mode, which will allow cars to optimize performance both on straights and through corners.
Actuator spotted on Ferrari mule car
Images from Yas Marina clearly show that the mule car used by Scuderia Ferrari features an actuator capable of lowering the front wing flap. This allows Ferrari engineers to start evaluating one of the main innovations that will appear on cars under the new regulations for 2026.
Of course, only during actual testing will the team obtain real feedback on how the active aerodynamics behave on track. Until then, engineers must rely on simulations and data gathered during these specialized test days.
