Despite a disappointing performance in the latest round of the 2023 Formula 1 championship, the British Grand Prix, Ferrari Team Principal Fred Vasseur has emphasized that the Maranello team will not be swayed into making sweeping changes to the SF-23 single-seater. At the Silverstone circuit, the Italian side faced one of its toughest races this year, with Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz finishing in ninth and tenth positions, respectively, losing more ground to Mercedes and Aston Martin in the fight for second place in the Constructors’ standings behind Red Bull.
In contrast, McLaren showcased significant progress with their MCL60, benefiting from a series of mid-season updates that propelled Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri to second and fourth places, respectively and allowed them to challenge Mercedes in the fight for podium finishes.
While Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz had impressive performances in the Austrian Grand Prix at the Red Bull Ring the week before, with the Monegasque securing a runner-up position behind Red Bull’s Max Verstappen. Ahead of the Hungarian Grand Prix, the Italian side occupies the fourth position in the Constructors’ standings, having accumulated 157 points. Charles Leclerc’s strong result at the Red Bull Ring remains the Maranello team’s best performance thus far in the 2023 Formula 1 season.
However, in spite of McLaren’s remarkable turnaround this season, Ferrari boss Frederic Vasseur asserts that his side remains unswayed by the idea of a drastic overhaul of the SF-23 single-seater. The car has achieved only two podium finishes in the ten races conducted thus far in the current Formula 1 championship.

“[It] was very different [in Austria],” – the French manager explained in an interview for the Italian and international media – “We have to be focused on ourselves, not to think about trying to copy others. We were between the [leading] group [in Austria] and we were able to do a better job. It’s more a matter of extracting the best of the package that we have than to change [the concept] completely.” – Ferrari Team Principal Fred Vasseur emphasized following the SF-23 performance in the British Grand Prix.
