Team principal Frederic Vasseur comments on the Leclerc-Russell incident
It was a forgettable Sunday for Ferrari at the 2025 Dutch Grand Prix in Zandvoort, with zero points scored. The team could still face repercussions following the retirements of Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc. The Monegasque driver is currently under investigation for a maneuver involving George Russell, and if the stewards decide to impose a penalty, it could result in a grid drop for the Italian at the upcoming Italian Grand Prix in Monza next weekend.
Ferrari team principal Frederic Vasseur analyzed the incident in an interview with Sky Sports, stating: “Russell didn’t notice Charles Leclerc. I don’t think a penalty will be issued, and if it were, it would be very harsh. Today we had good pace—Leclerc was matching the rhythm of Verstappen—but we paid dearly for an extremely negative Friday that affected our entire weekend.”
The race also saw Ferrari’s strategy impacted when Lewis Hamilton was involved while the team attempted an undercut on Isack Hadjar with Charles Leclerc. Despite this, Fred Vasseur expressed satisfaction with the seven-time world champion’s performance over the weekend: “He played an important role in our recovery after a very difficult Friday. I haven’t spoken with him yet about the incident.”
