Yesterday, the 3 Hours of Barcelona of the GT World Challenge took place, and it saw the Ferrari 296 GT3 from AF Corse – Francorchamps Motors driven by Alessio Rovera, Robert Shwartzman, and Nicklas Nielsen triumph on the Catalunya circuit. The race was not easy, given the high number of Safety Car and Full Course Yellow interventions that were required, but the Maranello car managed to assert itself right from the morning’s qualifying session.
Ferrari’s Race
At the start, both Ferrari cars quickly took first and second positions, leaving the Lamborghini #63 behind. In addition to this, car #63, after a few turns, spun off into the sand due to contact with the Mercedes #777, which was later penalized with a five-second penalty.
Throughout the race, the Safety Car was the absolute protagonist due to several incidents on the track. Among the many retirements, there was also the name of Italian former professional motorcycle road racer and nine-time Grand Prix motorcycle racing World Champion, Valentino Rossi, who had a spin and ended up in the gravel. Despite being able to continue to the pits, the team had to retire the car.
At the finish line, the first car to pass under the checkered flag was indeed the Mercedes #777, which, due to the penalty, was relegated to fourth place, thus opening the door for a Ferrari 1-2.

On the Pro-Am front, Ferrari celebrated a triumphant Sunday. Isaac Tutumlu Lopez, Samantha Tan, and Lorcan Hanafin secured the top spot on the podium, navigating their way to victory with the 296 GT3 from ST Racing with Rinaldi. Their consistent performance placed them among the frontrunners throughout the entire race. Another noteworthy accomplishment came from the AF Corse 296 GT3 squad, comprising Manny Franco, Cedric Sbirrazzuoli, and Lilou Wadoux, who clinched a remarkable podium finish. Lilou Wadoux, in particular, earned third place overall during her stint. However, the AF Corse crew competing in the Bronze Cup, composed of Louis and Jef Machiels along with Andrea Bertolini, concluded the day in ninth place. Notably, Andrea Bertolini had a stint that saw him rise as high as third during the race.
