Scuderia Ferrari Spanish driver Carlos Sainz has admitted to being “surprised” by the number of “different interpretations” to the new Formula 1 technical regulations, after seeing some of the other team’s cars for the 2022 Formula One season.
With the goal of improving the racing on track, Formula 1 is ready to start a new era by introducing an all-new technical rulebook which places the focus on creating downforce through the use of ground effect technology. Despite the fact that the new Formula 1 technical regulations are very limited and have been detailed for a long time, we could see many differences between the cars of the teams.
In a recent interview after the Maranello team officially presented its Ferrari F1-75, Carlos Sainz explained:
“There have been different interpretations of the rules already with the first seven cars that have been presented. I am a bit surprised because I thought that everyone was going to come out with more similar cars. And the regulations were so scripted that we all thought more or less everyone was going to come out with a similar design and actually, in the areas where you could be a bit different, the cars are really different.”

While eight of the ten teams were able to score at least one podium finish in the 2021 Formula 1 season, Red Bull and Mercedes clearly dominated the championship and were far ahead of the rest of the field. Asked to predict which teams could be involved in the fight for race wins this campaign, Carlos Sainz added:
“I think this has opened up the possibility to have different concepts and different directions to follow and I think it is going to be an interesting start to the year in that sense. It is impossible for me to tell you how many teams are going to be fighting for the win.” – Scuderia Ferrari Spanish driver Carlos Sainz concluded.
