Ferrari rookie Dino Beganovic suffered a frustrating end to the opening free practice session for the 2026 Brazilian Grand Prix after a problem with his SF-26 forced the team to call him back to the pits just as he was preparing a flying lap on soft tyres.
With only five minutes remaining before the chequered flag at Interlagos, the young driver was looking to complete a fast lap on the soft compound. However, an issue with the car interrupted his attempt before he could set a representative time, bringing his planned run to a premature conclusion.
Ferrari’s Dino Beganovic loses late FP1 flying lap in Brazil
The setback came at a particularly unfortunate moment for Dino Beganovic, who was preparing to make use of the soft tyres during the closing stages of the session. Instead, Ferrari instructed him to return to the garage because of a problem with the car.
The interruption denied the youngster the opportunity to complete his planned flying lap and gain a more representative indication of his performance on the softer compound.
The problem also underlined how challenging the first practice session proved for several young drivers at Interlagos. The running completed by Ferrari and its rivals can be examined further through the F1 practice and long-run analysis, which provides comparisons of observed practice performance.
Freddie Slater and Luke Browning also hit by technical problems
Dino Beganovic was not the only young driver whose programme was disrupted during Brazilian Grand Prix FP1.
Freddie Slater, driving for Audi, was forced to stop early because of a suspected gearbox failure. Meanwhile, Luke Browning also had to bring his programme with Williams to a premature conclusion following technical difficulties.
The three setbacks made the opening session at Interlagos particularly unfortunate for the newcomers, who were unable to complete their intended running programmes. For Ferrari, the late interruption left Dino Beganovic without the soft-tyre flying lap he had been preparing, turning the final minutes of FP1 into a disappointing conclusion to his session.
The remainder of the Brazilian Grand Prix weekend continues with the subsequent practice sessions, qualifying and the race, with the full timetable available in the 2026 Brazilian GP schedule.
