Ferrari speaks out on the potential for a V10 F1 engine comeback. Ferrari provide stance on potential V10 F1 engine return.

Ferrari’s team principal, Frederic Vasseur, has emphasized the importance of F1 seriously considering the potential return to fully combustion engines in the future. This statement comes after a recent meeting between F1 manufacturers in Bahrain, where discussions revolved around the future of the sport and the upcoming cycle of regulations.

During the meeting, there were even discussions suggesting that the 2026 regulations, which will bring significant changes to both chassis and power units, could be delayed or replaced in favor of a move back to combustion engines in the near future. Although this idea was quickly dismissed, team bosses have called the gathering productive as they focus on shaping F1’s future in the early 2030s.

Frederic Vasseur was part of the group that considered the talks beneficial but warned that F1 must remain cautious about rushing ahead too quickly with these discussions. Reflecting on the meeting, the French manager noted that while the conversation was constructive, it is crucial not to lose sight of the current regulatory framework for 2026. He mentioned that, as a racer, he would personally love to see a return to V12 engines for their iconic sound and performance, but acknowledged the importance of staying grounded in the present.

The topic of future engine regulations quickly moved from 2026 to 2031, prompting Fred Vasseur to express concerns about the pace of these discussions. He jokingly pointed out that the next step could soon shift to discussions about 2040, underscoring the need for a more measured approach.

Although the idea of a return to combustion engines is still in its early stages, the Ferrari team boss believes it was important to initiate the conversation about F1’s future direction. He emphasized the value of opening the discussion to ensure that all parties have the opportunity to share their thoughts and ideas.

Frederic Vasseur also acknowledged that this marked the first time such long-term discussions had been initiated so early in F1’s planning cycle. He welcomed this approach, as it provides insight into the perspectives of other manufacturers and fosters a diverse range of ideas. According to the former Alfa Romeo team boss, the meeting was very positive, as each participant had the chance to express their views, and this open dialogue is essential for shaping the future of the sport.

In summary, while the possibility of returning to combustion engines remains speculative, Frederic Vasseur’s comments highlight the importance of considering all potential options for F1’s future, ensuring the sport remains adaptable and responsive to evolving technologies and fan expectations.
