Last weekend, Formula 1 returned from the summer break with the Belgian Grand Prix at the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps, the first round of the championship under which Technical Directive 39 was in use. And slow was what Ferrari were around the Spa-Francorchamps circuit, at least when compared to Red Bull.
Despite the fact that the the two teams have been evenly matched for most part of this year’s grands prix, Red Bull completely dominated in Belgium, where Max Verstappen was six-tenths up in qualifying and won the race even though he had to start from P14 on the grid.
At the 7.004 km motor-racing circuit located in Stavelot, Belgium, Scuderia Ferrari used a slightly higher setting in terms of ground clearance, like everyone else, but this did not give any particular problems in the fast corners, which is a good sign for the Maranello team, as explained by FIA accredited and Formula 1 journalist and analyst Giuliano Duchessa. The problem was in the medium speed corners where a softer setup would have been useful.
The F1-75 suffered from bouncing at the Spa-Francorchamps circuit and rear wings were more conservative to approach the new Technical Directive 39. Next up is the Dutch Grand Prix and the characteristics of the Zandvoort track, alongside the harder compounds should help those who suffered at Spa. It will also be interesting to review the Red Bull RB18 with Max Verstappen’s downforce settings.

Both Scuderia Ferrari and Mercedes will be able to extract the load in a more appropriate way in the Dutch Grand Prix, all will use a max load wing taking into account the DRS areas. The Ferrari technicians, after working on race simulations for the Zandvoort circuit, think that the F1-75 car will be in a position to react and will be able to challenge Red Bull just like ahead of the summer break.
