
Ferrari’s development programme for the SF-26 has entered a critical phase, with the Maranello-based team combining on-track filming day data from Monza with an intensive simulator session involving Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc. The goal is to refine the effectiveness of upcoming upgrades ahead of the Miami Grand Prix weekend.
Following the 200-kilometre filming day at the Autodromo Nazionale di Monza, both Ferrari drivers contributed equally to the programme, completing approximately eighteen laps each. The session was designed to gather early validation data on aerodynamic and mechanical updates intended for the SF-26’s next competitive package.
Early internal analysis reportedly suggests encouraging results from the new components. In particular, the Maranello team’s engineers and technicians have made notable progress on the revised front-wing concept, internally referred to as the “Macarena wing,” which had shown instability during initial evaluation phases. After targeted revisions focused on load management and structural consistency, the design is now considered close to a race-ready specification.

Immediately after completing the Monza filming day programme, Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc returned to Ferrari’s headquarters in Maranello, where they continued work in the simulator for the remainder of the day. This second phase of development focused on correlation between real-world track data and virtual modelling systems.
The objective of this intensive simulator work was to align aerodynamic feedback, tyre behaviour, and energy deployment data collected at Monza with Ferrari’s digital simulation environment. Engineers believe this step is essential to ensure that the SF-26 upgrades perform as expected under full race conditions, particularly at the Miami International Autodrome, where high-speed traction and thermal management will be decisive.
Within Ferrari, this correlation process is considered a key part of modern Formula 1 development cycles, especially under cost cap restrictions, where efficiency in upgrade validation can significantly influence seasonal performance progression.
Initial indications suggest that both Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc provided consistent feedback regarding the balance improvements introduced by the latest package.
