“We need to push on developments.” After advocating for patience at the beginning of the 2024 Formula 1 championship while waiting for the package that debuted at the Imola circuit, Ferrari team principal Frederic Vasseur hinted post-race at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix that more new developments are already being prepared in Maranello.

This was confirmed by Charles Leclerc during an interview with Monaco Info ahead of his home Grand Prix, which is scheduled to take place this weekend in Monte Carlos:

“The updates at Imola worked, and I already felt more comfortable even though the circuit wasn’t the best to judge their effectiveness,” said Charles Leclerc. “More updates will arrive soon, with which we hope to take the lead. Currently, Red Bull is still the benchmark, and McLaren has also grown a lot.” In July, before the summer break, Ferrari will bring these additional updates to the track with the goal, as Charles Leclerc hopes, not just to close the gap to Red Bull, but to surpass the RB20 in overall performance, a situation not seen since early 2022 when the F1-75 was superior to the RB18.

Charles Leclerc is 48 points behind Max Verstappen in the Drivers standings ahead of the Monaco Grand Prix and he has yet to win in the beginning of the current championship. However, the home weekend could be a good opportunity to break a winless streak that dates back to the Austrian Grand Prix back in 2022 and to dispel what seems to be a real curse for Charles Leclerc. “My start to the season is definitely better compared to 2023,” – the Monegasque driver continued – “We didn’t win at Imola, but we got the points we could. I will try to win on Sunday in Monaco. It’s my favorite weekend because pushing to the limit on those streets is extraordinary; practically everything is decided on Saturday in Qualifying, which is also why we drivers love that weekend so much.” – Scuderia Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc concluded.
