Earlier it was reported that Pirelli will test the new 18-inch tyres with nine Formula 1 teams. For 28 days the teams will test the new tyres with a mule car. However, one team is missing from Pirelli’s test schedule.
Big name missing from list of Formula 1 teams
The test days are spread over the upcoming Formula 1 season. Each month a test will take place, in which one or more teams will participate. On the schedule, however, a big name is missing among the teams: Williams. The reason why Williams does not participate in the tyre tests is not given, but it is suggested that the team cannot supply a mule car. If that is the case it is probably due to financial reasons.
Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz already completed part of Ferrari’s test programme for Pirelli’s 2022 prototype tyres by turning 320 laps of Jerez. The Maranello team will return for the first day of the second testing session (March 30) and also on the morning session of August 4, at the Hungaroring track.
