The second day of the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix weekend brings very significant changes for Ferrari, as the Maranello team has replaced almost all the power unit components on the SF-25s driven by Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton.
Confirmation came from the document released by the race stewards and the FIA technical delegate at 16:43 in Jeddah.
The report by Jo Bauer, the FIA technical delegate, reveals that Ferrari changed the following components: the V6 (internal combustion engine), the turbo, the MGU-H, the MGU-K, and the exhaust.
All of these components are the second used this season, which means neither Charles Leclerc nor Lewis Hamilton will receive a penalty, as this complies with Article 28.2 of the Formula 1 Sporting Regulations. Ferrari has therefore chosen to use the second thermal engine available this season for both its drivers. Although Jeddah is only the fifth round of the 2025 season, the decision seems reasonable. Around 80% of a lap at Jeddah is spent at full throttle. A new engine could greatly help the Scuderia not only in tomorrow’s race but also in this evening’s qualifying.
Excluded from these changes are the battery and control electronics: the SF-25s still use the same specifications with which Leclerc and Hamilton competed in the first four rounds of the season.
Also worth noting is the exhaust change on Oliver Bearman‘s Ferrari power unit. This is a significant update for the British Haas driver, as it is the third unit used this season.
