FIA GT – Ferrari queen in Macau, history made
Italian fans woke up this morning to fantastic news: Ferrari and Antonio Fuoco are the GT World Cup champions in Macau. The Calabrian driver finished ahead of Lello Marciello and Laurin Heinrich on the iconic Chinese street circuit, delivering Ferrari its first-ever victory in the FIA GT World Cup.
With today’s triumph, Ferrari joins brands like Mercedes-AMG, Audi, and BMW, previous winners of this prestigious event, adding another major trophy to an already remarkable season for the Italian manufacturer. Moreover, this victory marks the first-ever FIA GT World Cup win for an Italian driver.
The race, as already seen yesterday, delivered its most dramatic moments in the opening lap. Raffaele Marciello, after overtaking both Alessio Picariello and Yifei Ye, saw the Belgian driver spin into the barriers after clipping his own car during the maneuver.
Marciello’s aggressive action also forced him inside Yifei Ye at Mandarin, who had started on the front row but suffered a disastrous start. Ye, forced to lift off the throttle with the BMW still inside the line, was then overtaken by the entire pack, eventually finishing seventh.
Shortly after, Ayhancan Guven ran wide at Lisboa, hitting the wall and immediately being hit by Luca Engstler and later by Dorian Boccolacci. All three were forced to retire, allowing Ye to climb back to fifth place. The Turkish driver was also contacted by Heinrich, who in turn was nudged by Eriksson’s Audi behind him.
This chaos allowed the German driver to make further progress, executing a flawless start and moving into third position. With four cars stranded on track (three at Lisboa and one at Turn 1), the safety car was inevitably deployed.
At the restart, Antonio Fuoco delivered a perfect performance. As the laps passed, he built a comfortable gap that, at the finish, was an impressive 3.960 seconds. A performance to remember, which engraves Antonio Fuoco’s name in the glorious history of Macau’s streets.
