Long run pace analysis and race simulations by tire compound for Scuderia Ferrari, Mercedes, Red Bull based on data gathered from the third free practice session at the Suzuka circuit, a 5.807 km long motorsport race track located in Ino, Suzuka City, Mie Prefecture ahead of the 2022 Formula 1 Japanese Grand Prix this weekend:
The third free practice session gave us a lot of information in the first dry runs of the weekend: Scuderia Ferrari seems to have improved a lot in tyre wear, Mercedes also quite good (on hards), while Red Bull ran a different program to limit tyre wear as much as possible it seems.
If we look at the pace, without knowing programs or fuel loads, the F1-75 cars are looking good on both pace and tyre management, Mercedes ~0.3s from the Maranello team on mediums and with the same tyre wear, and Red Bull perhaps ran a tyre management stint with less tyre wear than Ferrari on softs.
The degradation values you see are an average/estimate of degradation (in s) per lap: so for example Verstappen had a performance loss of about 0.119s/lap. These can’t be precise values but I feel that they are accurate enough to be included
