Federico Albano has analyzed the race simulations by tire compound for Scuderia Ferrari, Red Bull, Alpine, Haas and AlphaTauri based on data gathered from practice at the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari ahead of the 2022 Emilia Romagna in Imola:
It is clear that some drivers have split the job exactly in two, like the Ferrari drivers, Tsunoda or Alonso, while the two Red Bull cars have work on both compounds but without significant variations in fuel load. Sergio Perez tried two long runs as a preview for the sprint race, showing an excellent pace on both soft and medium tires. In Ferrari, on the other hand, Charles Leclerc tested the sprint race pace with soft tires and the full race pace with medium tires, while Carlos Sainz did the opposite, with the clear intention of matching the data. The Red Bull pace appeared fast and consistent, confirming the low degradation of the Pirelli 2022 tires, but with the Ferrari cars very close. Hybrid work instead for Max Verstappen, not as light as his teammate, but not even completely loaded with fuel to try the first race stint for Sunday. Both Mercedes were also dedicated to hybrid work, with Russell also finding the best time, but making use of the DRS, one of the very few to use it, a sign that Mercedes is using these sessions more as a test than as a preparation for the race itself.
