Scuderia Ferrari seems to have learned the lesson from 2016. At the beginning of last season, the Italian team was very confident in the possibility of fighting for both titles and did not hesitate to express its optimism on every occasion during the winter, before the pre-season testing sessions. Unfortunately, the 2016 Formula 1 championship proved to be another disappointing year for the Maranello side, who could not live up to its promises and eventually had to settle for third place in the World Constructors’ Championship, behind rivals Mercedes and Red Bull.
2017 will be a season marked by important rule changes regarding the aerodynamic aspect of the car, but also the Pirelli tyres and other technical components will be completely different, which means that the 2017 Formula One championship should materialise in more exciting races, although for the moment it is hard to say how the hierarchy will look like. Ferrari is aware of the uncertainty surrounding the new season and this time prefers to work in silence, without statements which proclaim great results for the near future, as opposed to the approach that Sergio Marchionne and the team had last year, when the 2016 proclamations ultimately resulted in not even a single race win.
Alberto Antonini, Ferrari’s Press Officer, has discussed about the uncharacteristically quiet winter of the Maranello team: “It would not be wise to talk about the expectations for this season. The rules have changed and there will be a completely new car. We know what we are capable of and what type of car we have produced, the results are so far in line with the expectations of the team, but we have to wait for the pre-season testing sessions in Barcelona to be able to get a better view of our work and compare ourselves to others. So for the moment we are entirely focused on our work and this is what we consider to be the best approach.” – Alberto Antonini concluded.
