The Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix at Imola will mark a key moment in Ferrari’s 2025 season. On their home track, the Maranello-based team will introduce an important update package for the SF-25, hoping to close the gap to Red Bull and McLaren and give their championship a fresh push while awaiting the major upgrade expected in Barcelona.
Slimmer sidepods and an evolved floor: the core of the update
The most noticeable change will be in the sidepods, which have been completely redesigned compared to the previous specification. The new profile will be slimmer and more aggressive, aiming to improve aerodynamic efficiency and direct airflow more cleanly towards the rear of the car. This solution follows a trend already adopted by other teams and targets a reduction in drag to increase top speed.
Alongside the new sidepods, Ferrari will also introduce an updated floor, a key component in generating downforce under the current ground-effect regulations. The modifications should help stabilize the rear end and improve balance management in medium- and high-speed corners, where the SF-25 has so far shown signs of unpredictability and instability.
The issues seen during the early races of 2025 have mostly concerned the car’s behavior through corners and its difficulty in extracting performance during qualifying sessions—partly due to inconsistent tyre temperature management. The updates planned for Imola have been developed specifically to address these critical areas.
Wind tunnel and simulator testing have confirmed the expected benefits of the new components, and Ferrari’s engineers are confident they can take a significant step forward starting with the Emilia-Romagna round.
With Lewis Hamilton still adjusting to the SF-25 and Charles Leclerc seeking consistency, both Ferrari drivers are looking ahead to Imola with strong optimism. They are well aware of the technical value of the incoming package and hope it will finally allow the team to regularly fight for podium finishes.
The Santerno circuit, known for its technical and demanding nature, will provide an ideal proving ground to assess whether Ferrari has found the right path to reinvigorate its season. And with the support of their home crowd, the motivation will be even stronger.
