Ferrari is preparing a special Michael Schumacher-inspired SF-26 livery for the 2026 Italian Grand Prix, with Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc set to carry the tribute at Monza as part of a series of initiatives celebrating the German champion’s legendary era at Maranello.
The tribute will commemorate two major anniversaries: 30 years since Michael Schumacher claimed his first victory for Ferrari in 1996 and 20 years since his final win with the Scuderia in 2006. Further details of the initiatives planned for the Italian Grand Prix are expected to be announced in the coming days.
Ferrari prepares special Michael Schumacher livery for Monza
Anticipation is already building around Ferrari’s home race. Attention is not only focused on the expected debut of the ADUO2 engine specification, which should significantly reduce the power deficit to Mercedes’ six-cylinder engine, but also on the possibility of reigniting the championship battle.
Ferrari’s planned ADUO2 power unit upgrade for Monza will arrive at an important stage of the season. Lewis Hamilton is level on points with George Russell in the fight for second place, behind Drivers’ Championship leader Kimi Antonelli.
For the 97th edition of the Italian Grand Prix, the Scuderia also has a special surprise prepared for the tifosi: a tribute to Michael Schumacher, the seven-time German world champion who retains a unique place in the hearts of Ferrari and Formula 1 supporters.
Ferrari celebrates Schumacher’s legendary 1996–2006 era
The 2026 race at the Temple of Speed comes 30 years after Michael Schumacher’s first victory in red in 1996 and 20 years after the final win of his Ferrari career in 2006.
Between those milestones came the most successful period in the history of the Prancing Horse. Michael Schumacher won five consecutive Drivers’ Championships with Ferrari and recorded 71 victories in red, achievements that defined an extraordinary decade for the team.
The SF-26 cars driven by Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc are therefore set to feature a special livery dedicated to the champion from Hürth. Monza provides a fitting setting in which to recognise the place Michael Schumacher earned in Ferrari history through performances that became legendary.
More Michael Schumacher tributes planned for the Italian GP
Michael Schumacher continues to live with the serious consequences of the skiing accident he suffered in Méribel on 29 December 2013. The former champion is cared for by his wife Corinna and other members of his family, who have consistently protected his privacy.
Ferrari’s tribute will offer another demonstration of the affection that remains throughout Formula 1 for one of the greatest drivers in the history of motor racing.
A series of special initiatives dedicated to “King Schumi” is being prepared for Monza, although the complete programme will not be officially revealed until the coming days. The Italian Grand Prix is expected to attract an enormous crowd, not only because of the championship contest between Italian leader Kimi Antonelli and Ferrari, but also because of the tribute Maranello intends to pay to its former champion.
Two decades may have passed since Michael Schumacher’s final Ferrari victory, but neither the Scuderia nor the tifosi have forgotten the driver who led the team through its most successful era. Keep Fighting Michael.
