Scuderia Ferrari is planning a series of technical interventions on the F1-75 that should not only make the Maranello men make a step further in the fight for the 2022 Formula 1 world championship, but also facilitate the task of its customer teams.
The Italian side, in fact, will bring the modified floor for the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix at the Imola circuit to further reduce porpoising, while in the Miami GP that follows the race at Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari, Ferrari plans to introduce the new hybrid part that can be developed until September, before the engine freeze is imposed by the FIA.
According to Motorsport Italy, the main components will be the MGU-K motor generator, battery and control unit, which represent the three elements of the ERS that teams are allwed to work on. Initially, the plans were to bring this package of updates in Spain given that the 066/7 engine 2 will come into action in Barcelona, but in reality the results gathered from the simulations are positive, so there is the desire to anticipate this evolutionary step in the United States.
In Montmelò, after five races, the first power unit, which is doing its part wonderfully, will become the engine that Ferrari will use during free practice sessions, reducing the mileage commitment of engine 2 over the course of individual weekends.
The new hybrid should also ensure an increase in power as well as ensure more thermal electric strategies, in compliance with the reliability parameters. Ferrari is aware that there was time to develop solutions until the end of the summer, but in Maranello they want to benefit from the new solutions as soon as possible in an attempt to create a greater gap with Max Verstappen’s Red Bull.

Given that the Dutchman has undergone his second retirement in three races, Scuderia Ferrari is aware that Red Bull will introduce major updates as they attempt to fight back and solve their power unit reliability problems. The Maranello team wants to widen the advantage over Max’s RB18 beyond 50 points to have a margin that does not compromise the top of the standings, sheltering themselves from possible issues and perhaps allowing themselves the use of a fourth engine in the second part of the 2022 Formula 1 season and therefore not have to use an engine close to its mileage limit.
Scuderia Ferrari, in short, is planning a season at the top, but Alfa Romeo and Haas will also be able to benefit from the upgrades to the Maranello hybrid, perhaps changing values in the fight for leading positions in the center group.
