Ferrari on 10 September: Monza wins and remembrance
10 September brings together contrasting moments in Ferrari’s Italian Grand Prix history. Michael Schumacher won at Monza on this date in both 2000 and 2006, while the 1961 race combined Phil Hill’s championship success with the fatal accident involving his team-mate Wolfgang von Trips.
This anniversary therefore includes both sporting achievement and remembrance. The dated results below provide the record, with additional context for the events that shaped Ferrari’s relationship with Monza.

Michael Schumacher’s Monza victories in 2000 and 2006
Victory on 10 September 2000 formed part of Michael Schumacher’s successful run towards his first Drivers’ Championship with Ferrari. Monza was followed by further wins in the United States, Japan and Malaysia as he completed the season strongly.
Six years later, he won the Italian Grand Prix again on the same date. The 2006 result came during his final season racing for Ferrari, giving the Monza crowd another home victory before his long partnership with the team ended.
1961: a championship overshadowed by tragedy
Phil Hill won the Italian Grand Prix on 10 September 1961 and secured the Drivers’ World Championship with Ferrari. However, the race was overshadowed by the accident that killed Wolfgang von Trips and spectators.
The sporting result cannot be separated from that loss. For Ferrari’s historical calendar, 10 September is both the anniversary of a championship and a day to remember those who died at Monza.
A date spanning different Ferrari generations
The calendar also includes Gerhard Berger’s second place in the 1989 Italian Grand Prix and Carlos Reutemann’s third place in 1978. Together, these entries show how often Monza has featured on this date across Formula 1 history.
