1995: the long-awaited Ferrari victory
Jean Alesi had raced for Ferrari since 1991, accumulating podium finishes without reaching the top step. The 1995 Canadian Grand Prix finally brought the victory that had eluded him.
The success came in the Ferrari 412 T2 and became the defining result of his final season with the Scuderia. Gerhard Berger retired from the same race, leaving Jean Alesi to deliver Ferrari’s victory.
A birthday and a race anniversary together
Many dates in the calendar connect birthdays with unrelated races from other years. In this case, the connection is direct: Jean Alesi won on the day he turned 31.
After the race, Michael Schumacher gave him a lift back towards the pits on his Benetton when the Ferrari stopped on its slowing-down lap. The scene became one of the familiar images associated with the celebrations.
