The 675 project that led to the design of the SF-23 single-seater, for now, is proving to be a failure. A car which was expected to contend for the 2023 Formula 1 title with the RB19 and perhaps to be even superior over the course of the season, is actually showing many weaknesses, that relegate it to the role of fourth force on the grid after three grands prix.
According to recent rumors, Ferrari has started a secret campaign of trying to bring new technicians and engineers to Maranello. However, many foreign engineers would be reluctant to move to Italy.
Ferrari looking for key members but Maranello no longer attracts foreign engineers
Motorsport.it reported the news of this presumed intention from the Italian side, stating that “Ferrari has to deal with foreign technicians who do not want to come to Italy”. An indiscretion that actually finds confirmation, if we consider the last few months after Mattia Binotto’s resignation, when Ferrari was looking for a worthy replacement in the role of team principal.
Christian Horner himself confirmed that he turned down Ferrari in December. In fact, the English manager felt he had no reason to move from England and abandon an already successful and proven project like that of Red Bull. After more than a month of rumors, the choice finally fell back to Fred Vasseur, who left Alfa Romeo at the end of the 2022 Formula 1 season. Even the great chief designer of the Milton Keynes team Adrian Newey stated in his book that he had rejected the gistoric Italian team years ago.

“I went to visit Luca di Montezemolo, then President of Ferrari, at his house in the countryside near Tuscany. We talked seriously and their offer was crazy. Luca wanted to entrust me with the entire Ferrari, both road and racing. They almost promised a star lifestyle and an absurdly high economic offer. Much more than double the already generous salary I received at Red Bull.” – he admitted.
“Red Bull was my home,” Adrian Newey continued in the book. Of course there were family matters to consider. The kids, we all did different things and my relationship with Mandy. I had to weigh all of this when it came time to make a decision. But as far as work is concerned, my constant thought was simply: I didn’t want to leave Red Bull.”
At the moment, 7 out of 10 teams are located in the UK. Only Haas, Alfa Romeo and precisely Ferrari are divided between Italy and Switzerland. This, combined with 15 years of failures and mistakes in Maranello, could explain why the Italian side no longer attracts the best foreign technicians as it did in its golden years.
