The third row secured in qualifying for the Chinese GP might discourage many, but not Lewis Hamilton. The Ferrari driver is aiming for victory on Sunday in Shanghai. He knows the key factors of the race and is preparing a “master plan” to claim success.
Sir Lewis is now insatiable—the Sprint Race victory on Saturday has only fueled his hunger. The British champion is convinced of Ferrari’s great potential. Now, it’s time for a comeback, one that must be built around a precise strategy.
Lewis Hamilton reveals setup changes after the Sprint
After Saturday’s short race, the SF-25 didn’t provide the same sensations that had put Lewis Hamilton ahead in the Sprint. “We made some changes to the car after the Sprint. I don’t know if it was the wind, but the car became harsher,” admitted the 1985-born driver, who nonetheless doesn’t see his victory chances at risk.
The Shanghai circuit allows for comebacks and overtaking. Lewis Hamilton knows this well, and winning the Chinese GP remains his goal for Sunday: “It’s not a track where you’re forced to follow a single racing line. That’s a good thing,” explained the Ferrari driver.
The ‘master plan’ to win in China: Lewis Hamilton believes
The key will be tire management. With significant and aggressive graining during the Sprint, the tires will require careful handling. “Many drivers struggled to follow each other. How to use the tires, when to use the tires—these will be the key aspects of the race.”
He may not be on pole position anymore, but that doesn’t matter—Sir Lewis remains confident. “I’m in a very different position compared to the Sprint, but I stay optimistic. My goal is to get a good start and overtake at least one car at the beginning. Then, slowly…” – the British driver pointed out – “Tonight, I will study a master plan to win the race,” revealed Lewis Hamilton on Saturday at the Chinese GP. “Then I’ll have to try to execute it. But that’s my mindset for the GP.”
