The Imola weekend once again highlighted the significant limitations of the SF-25 in qualifying. Not exactly encouraging ahead of the Monaco GP, where Saturday is often crucial for a shot at victory—as confirmed last year by Ferrari and Charles Leclerc. In the most recent edition of the Principality race, in fact, it was the home driver who secured a win that had eluded Maranello since 2017, having taken pole position the day before.
A victory that number 16 of the Italian team hopes to repeat in this 2025 season, which has started with more than a few difficulties. The SF-25, in fact, is not proving to be up to the pre-season expectations, and after just seven races, criticism of the Scuderia has already begun to mount, with some even questioning Fred Vasseur’s future. The team principal has come under fire due to a lack of results and communication that hasn’t convinced the Ferrari faithful.
Charles Leclerc Not Very Optimistic Ahead of His Home Race
In this context, a win on the streets of Monte Carlo would serve to boost motivation and morale within a team that has had to face a reality far from what was hoped. But is winning truly possible? Charles Leclerc addressed the question after the Imola race, which he finished in sixth place following a comeback that thrilled the sea of red in the stands at the Enzo and Dino Ferrari circuit.
“Based on what you saw this weekend, are you confident for Monaco?” a journalist asked the Monegasque driver.
“No,” was Charles Leclerc’s blunt response, before walking away with a slight smile on his face. The Ferrari driver knows just how crucial qualifying is on his home streets, and the limitations seen so far with the SF-25 point exactly in the wrong direction.
But Monaco, as we know, is an unusual track where anything can happen. Something that Ferrari fans hope will play in favor of their local hero.
