Mattia Binotto could miss the Austrian Grand Prix. The Ferrari team principal, after completing the redistribution of tasks regarding track activities, can now focus on work in Maranello: according to rumors, in fact, the Italian could skip the first event at the Red Bull Ring circuit, which will host two races in the following weeks, after the French Grand Prix at Paul Ricard.
The Scuderia, in fact, has finalized a new organizational structure with Laurent Mekies who has been promoted to Racing Director, with Inaki Rueda who has taken on the role of sporting director while also remaining in charge of strategies. Ravin Jain, the young Anglo-Indian engineer, was promoted to the pit wall, and will now work on the front line in the pit lane.
Already in Baku Mattia Binotto did not take his place at the Maranello team’s wall, following the tests and the race inside the garage, allowing the team to take on the new organizational aspect.
On the occasion of the Azerbaijan GP the presence of Enrico Cardile was also noticed, the Tuscan technician who leads the technical part: in the next events he will be involved in the work carried out in Maranello by defining the 2022 car which is in an advanced design phase.
It is therefore not surprising that the team principal also decides to skip a Grand Prix, with the knowledge that the focus of the Italian side is on next year when the ground-effect single-seater will have to bring the Scuderia back to fight for the world title, challenging Mercedes and Red Bull.
It is likely that Austria may not be the only GP that will take place without Mattia Binotto: we remember that last year the number one of the Racing Department did not take part in the Turkish and Bahrain Grand Prix, also skipping the closing appointment in Abu Dhabi due to an illness that affected him while he was leaving Sakhir.
