There have been 38 races held at the Hungaroring, with the Hungarian Grand Prix being a constant fixture on the F1 calendar since its inception as a World Championship round in 1986. This race made history as the first F1 event behind the Iron Curtain.
Over these 38 races, 19 different drivers have claimed victory.
Two drivers have achieved a Grand Slam at the Hungarian Grand Prix. Damon Hill accomplished this in 1995 by taking pole position, leading every lap, and setting the fastest lap. Michael Schumacher replicated the feat in 2004.
Scuderia Ferrari holds the record for the most podium finishes at the Hungaroring circuit, with their cars appearing on the podium 26 times. There have been nine 1-2 finishes by teams at this track, with the Maranello team achieving four of these, the most recent being seven years ago with Sebastian Vettel ahead of Kimi Raikkonen.
On ten occasions, the top three qualifiers have finished on the podium. The 2002 and 2017 races are notable for having the top three starters finish in their starting order. Conversely, in 2006 and 2014, none of the top three qualifiers finished on the podium.
Michael Schumacher, Mika Hakkinen, Lewis Hamilton, and Sebastian Vettel have all taken back-to-back poles at the Hungaroring. No driver has taken more than two consecutive poles, though Schumacher achieved this feat three times.
Until 2023, McLaren, Ferrari, and Mercedes were tied for the most poles at the Hungaroring, each with eight. Lewis Hamilton’s pole in 2023 gave Mercedes its ninth.
Williams, Ferrari, McLaren, Red Bull, and Mercedes are the only teams to have secured successive poles at the Hungaroring. Mercedes holds the record for the most consecutive poles, achieving this from 2013 to 2016 and again from 2020 to 2023.
There have been 15 front-row lockouts at the Hungarian Grand Prix, six of which occurred in the last nine races at the Hungaroring.
There have been a total of 20 first-lap retirements in the 38 races at the Hungaroring. The highest number of cars to retire on the first lap is four, which happened in both 1992 and 2021. Ex-Ferrari man Felipe Massa is the only driver to record a DNS (Did Not Start) at the Hungarian Grand Prix, due to his crash in qualifying for the 2009 event behind the wheel of the Ferrari car.
The highest number of drivers to finish on the lead lap is 14, seen in 2012 and 2015. The lowest number is two, with Damon Hill and David Coulthard being the only drivers to finish on the lead lap in 1995.
Former Ferrari drivers Kimi Raikkonen and Michael Schumacher share the record for the most fastest laps at the Hungarian Grand Prix, each setting the fastest lap four times, while Williams and Ferrari are tied for the most fastest laps by a team at the Hungarian Grand Prix, each with nine.
The Hungarian Grand Prix has failed to reach its scheduled distance on three occasions. The 1986 race hit the two-hour limit before the scheduled laps were completed, while the 2012 and 2015 races were each shortened by one lap due to drivers lining up incorrectly on the formation lap.
