The 2024 Formula 1 Hungarian Grand Prix, set to unfold over 70 laps of the 4.381-kilometre Hungaroring circuit in Budapest on Sunday, July 21, promises to be an exhilarating event. The Hungaroring, a fixture on the F1 calendar since 1986, is renowned for its twisty, technical layout that challenges drivers with a series of tight corners and limited overtaking opportunities. Known as one of the slowest tracks on the circuit, it places a premium on driver skill and car setup, making it a favorite among fans and drivers alike.
Weather plays a crucial role in Formula 1, influencing everything from tire strategy to aerodynamics. A wet race can turn the grid on its head, rewarding those with superior car control and strategic acumen. Conversely, extreme heat can strain engines and tire performance, demanding precise management from teams. Thus, the weather forecast is always eagerly anticipated by teams and spectators alike.
Late July in Budapest typically features hot, summer weather. Average high temperatures hover around 27-30°C (81-86°F), with occasional peaks above 30°C (86°F). Nights are warm, with lows around 16-18°C (61-64°F). Rainfall is relatively infrequent but not unheard of, and thunderstorms can occasionally disrupt the otherwise sunny conditions. Humidity levels can also be significant, adding another layer of challenge for both drivers and machinery.
The Hungaroring circuit’s tight and twisty nature means that track position is vital, and the weather could play a pivotal role in determining the outcome of the race. Teams will need to carefully monitor tire wear and manage their strategies to cope with the heat. Drivers who excel in maintaining tire performance over long stints could have a significant advantage.
GP Hungary 2024, what will the weather be like? A whole weekend of sweltering heat
As is traditional at the Hungaroring, drivers will face the challenge of high temperatures, with no risk of rain
The Hungarian Grand Prix has always been known as one of the most challenging events of the season for drivers, combining the tortuous Hungaroring circuit, which tests physical endurance, with the high temperatures typical of the summer months. This challenge will return for this year’s edition, the 39th in history
No rain, lots of heat
According to the latest weather forecasts by accuweather.com, in Mogyoród, a small town on the outskirts of Budapest where the track is located, the risk of rain will be practically absent. The main ‘concern,’ if it can be called that, will be on Saturday, with a probability of 12%, the highest of the weekend. For the rest, all sessions scheduled from Friday to Sunday will take place under predominantly sunny skies, with temperatures always exceeding 30°C.
Specifically, the maximum peaks will hover around 33°-34°C, the exact opposite of what was seen and felt at the last race of the season at Silverstone, where there was a constant threat of rain. These are the forecasts for the 13th round of the championship.
