Scuderia Ferrari Spanish driver Carlos Sainz confirmed that the Maranello team have made a few tweaks to his F1-75 challenger which seem to be helping the Spanish driver, who in Canada was able to match the pace of Max Verstappen and pushed to the limit without fear of losing control.
Carlos Sainz had an impressive first season with Ferrari in 2021, but has endured a difficult start to the current F1 championship, while his Maranello teammate Charles Leclerc seemed to have a much better handle on this year’s F1-75 car. The Monegasque driver secured two victories in the first three races of the 2022 Formula 1 season, while Carlos Sainz was never really involved in the fight for the win ahead of the Monaco Grand Prix, where he missed out on P1 after being slowed down by Nicholas Latifi at a key stage of the race and most importantly last weekend at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal, where the Spaniard was for the first time in 2022 the fastest man on track.
This was also the result of some changes made by the Italian side to his car in order to bring it more in line with the 27-year-old’s driving style, as confirmed by Carlos himself: “There is some good progress being made with the car, we’ve changed a bit of things on the car to try and make it a bit more to my liking and they seem to be working,” he explained, after the Canadian Grand Prix last weekend.
Carlos Sainz is looking forward to continue the progress and get a better feeling with the F1-75 car before he gives the Maranello team the thumbs up regarding the direction their updates are heading in.
The Spanish driver is targeting his first Formula 1 victory and the pace and performance of the Ferrari F1-75 car should give him this opportunity in 2022, after finishing second 11 times during his F1 career. No driver has ever made it to 14 podiums without standing on the top step. This unwanted Formula 1 record is currently (13) being held by German racing driver Nick Heidfeld, who scored regular podium finishes in 2005 with Williams, and in 2007 and 2008 with BMW Sauber.

Carlos Sainz came very close to ending the series of podium finishes without a win last weekend, but he was not able to overtake a faultless Max Verstappen in the final stages of the Canadian Grand Prix:
“I think I need more circuits, more different kinds of corners to have a proper feel for that. I said it a few races ago, I want to take it a bit more race by race and not worry too much about the championship, or anything like that. I really want to focus on getting to a track and see if I can get myself in a good window of performance and comfort inside the car. In Canada, I did that. Ever since FP1, I looked very quick both in qualifying and race pace. And in the race I was pushing flat out without any fear of losing the car, like I had in Barcelona.” – Scuderia Ferrari Spanish driver Carlos Sainz concluded.
