The Qatar GP Sprint has once again highlighted Ferrari’s ongoing struggles, complicated by inconsistent results and a technical leadership under constant pressure. Adding further concern, Ivan Capelli did not hold back during the live Sky broadcast, offering a sharp critique of how the team is managed.
According to the former Italian driver, Ferrari’s main issue is not just the car’s competitiveness but the lack of a coherent communication strategy. Ivan Capelli emphasized that this fragmentation is undermining the entire sporting project. “There is a huge disconnect between what you hear: drivers, team principal, president… everyone tells a different story, and that’s not acceptable. Ferrari should have a single voice, yet here the responsibility is shared by everyone,” he said.
Ivan Capelli’s comments about top-level communication became even more pointed. He questioned some official statements that, in his view, do not reflect the technical reality on track. “When I hear the president claim the car has improved and that the drivers should speak less, I honestly wonder in what way it has improved. You listen to Fred Vasseur and discover that development was frozen in April… it’s a constant contradiction.”
His critique extends beyond words, touching on the overall management of a project that requires stability and a shared vision. The contrast between what various key figures say, according to Ivan Capelli, creates a heavy atmosphere that does not help either the factory staff or those on track.
Ivan Capelli concluded with a reflection on the two men trying to hold Ferrari together amid evident difficulties: Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton. His assessment this time was entirely positive. He highlighted the drivers’ efforts to compensate for the car’s limitations: “Hamilton and Leclerc have tried to keep the operation going. Charles finds performance where there is none and tries to hold the team together… but the images speak for themselves.”
The picture Ivan Capelli paints is of a Ferrari that must rediscover its identity, regain technical direction, and most importantly, develop a single unified voice — a fundamental condition for rebuilding a winning project.
With only the Abu Dhabi finale remaining after Qatar, Ivan Capelli’s outspoken intervention has intensified calls for urgent change at Ferrari during what has become another deeply disappointing season for the most successful team in Formula 1 history.
