One of the hottest topics surrounding Ferrari right now is Charles Leclerc’s future, with several rumors linking him to other teams. Despite the speculation, the Monegasque driver has reportedly made a very specific request to his agent.
Charles Leclerc has just completed his seventh season with Ferrari, yet the Formula 1 world championship that he has been chasing since the early stages of his career still eludes him. Ferrari has yet to provide a car capable of competing at the front, aside from a brief period in early 2022 and at the end of 2024. With numerous rumors circulating about his future, it’s been suggested that Charles Leclerc might be eyeing a move to other teams to fulfill his dream. However, the #16’s request seems clear and telling.
The 2025 season has tested Charles Leclerc’s patience. After a promising 2024, he expected a significant step forward that would provide him with a car capable of winning the title. However, this year has been a disaster on all fronts. The SF-25 proved to be a total failure, and with the car’s poor performance came even more rumors about the future of Ferrari, including discussions around team principal Fred Vasseur, Lewis Hamilton, and Charles Leclerc himself.
The request from #16 to Todt
In recent months, there have been increasing rumors about Charles Leclerc potentially joining Aston Martin. Lawrence Stroll has long expressed admiration for the Monegasque driver and has made no secret of his intention to bring him to his team. Recently, there have also been reports about two other teams interested in signing Charles Leclerc: McLaren and Mercedes, according to sources from Ciccarone. However, FUnoAnalisiTecnica has reported that they have been closely monitoring the latest developments regarding Charles Leclerc’s future, and it has been revealed that Charles Leclerc has asked his agent not to make contact with any other teams. This is because the #16 is focused on navigating the next regulatory cycle with Ferrari.
It has also been stated that Charles Leclerc has full confidence in the team at Maranello. His lack of expectations for 2026, therefore, does not stem from a lack of faith but from the absence of clear performance references due to the regulatory changes. However, this does not rule out the possibility that after the first few races of the upcoming season, Charles Leclerc might decide to look elsewhere if Ferrari’s performance is lacking. For now, these are just rumors that should be taken with caution. Charles Leclerc is certainly not making any decisions about his future in the near term, so we will have to wait and see.
