For Jacques Villeneuve, Oliver Bearman is even stronger under pressure, making him particularly suited for a top team.
Super Bearman in Mexico
Oliver Bearman is impressing everyone in the paddock and is one of the biggest pleasant surprises of 2025. Many thought he would struggle with the pressure of Esteban Ocon (not a superstar, but certainly a solid and challenging teammate for a rookie in a full-time seat), yet at the Mexico City Grand Prix, the British driver overtook him in the driver standings for car #31.
Last weekend, the Ferrari Driver Academy driver delivered a top-level performance, combining speed, composure, and race management like a seasoned driver. His ability to insert himself into the leading group by taking advantage of the tensions between Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton, along with his tenacious defense of fourth position until the checkered flag, shows Bearman’s growth. According to Jacques Villeneuve, he has everything needed to compete at the highest level.
Villeneuve’s words
“It’s always great to see when a driver improves through analysis and study, finding solutions to problems. You see his progress and wonder when he will stop growing. He is a very promising young man, and the Mexico weekend was absolutely champion-level. He was fast, and the pressure didn’t affect him,” he commented to the British team at Sky Sports UK. “He is a very aggressive driver but always in control, extremely skilled in race situations, and has a good sense of space: not many F1 drivers today have these qualities, and even with the strongest drivers, we sometimes wonder what they were thinking during certain maneuvers.”
“Oliver is very promising, and on top of that, he seems to be the kind of driver who handles pressure better, making him more suited to top teams. He is stronger now than he was when racing in the junior categories, and that is very important,” concluded the 1997 world champion.
