Ferrari introduces new power unit elements for Baku weekend | 2021 Azerbaijan GP. Ferrari introduces new power unit elements for Baku.

Scuderia Ferrari and Mercedes have decided to introduce new power unit elements to all its cars and those of its customers for this weekend’s Azerbaijan Grand Prix at the Baku City Circuit

Formula 1 teams are limited to the number of power unit components usable throughout a season with three internal combustion engines [ICE], turbochargers [TC], motor-generator units-heat [MGU-H] and motor-generator units-kinetic [MGU-K] allowed, plus two control electronics [CE] and energy stores [ES] permitted.

Ahead of round six of the championship, a technical delegates report shows that each Mercedes-powered car – Mercedes, McLaren, Aston Martin and Williams – as well as each Ferrari-engined team – Ferrari, Alfa Romeo and Haas – has been fitted with a new ICE, TC and MGU-H.

All Mercedes cars have also been fitted with a new MGU-K, as well as just the factory Ferrari team, whilst Nikita Mazepin has taken his second CE for his Haas.

Each car has taken one of eight exhaust systems permitted, as well as both Renault-powered Alpine cars.

Exceeding the permitted number of components in a season will result in a grid penalty, with teams often strategically introducing new parts at specific races in a season.

Baku will have been highlighted as a track to introduce new engine parts due to the benefits of running at full power down the 2.2-kilometre start-finish straight.
