Italian blogger Leo Turrini, who is famously very close to proceedings at Scuderia Ferrari, reflects on the Maranello team’s current situation and the difficult start of the season at the Autrian Grand Prix, in a post published on his quotidiano.net blog:
“Some post-Austria considerations.
After everything that has happened and is still happening in the world, it was great to see a Grand Prix again. Formula One is a piece of my life. And I missed it. On the pre-race episode, with 14 drivers kneeling and six not. Maximum respect for the sensitivity of each individual, of course. I am with Hamilton and the other 13 because there are moments in which gestures count and this in history in my opinion is one of those moments. But I’m not a naive, I know perfectly well that racism is not beaten with gestures but with behaviors. I also know that I have nothing to do with Trump and Ecclestone and that’s enough for me.
Third thing. There is nothing wrong with getting excited about Carletto’s race. I know that serial haters are everywhere, I happily pity them and stop, as usual. On Sunday Leclerc drew blood from the Red car. Hats off.
And speaking of the Red car. Mattia Binotto must give answers for the simple reason that this machine is his child, the child of a team principal who is of technical extraction, therefore the direct involvement is much wider than that of Arrivabene, Domenicali, even Todt. Here too, nothing bad: but if you start the season behind McLaren and Racing Point and your name is Ferrari, hey, could you explain why?
Another thing.
I only believe that all this situation is caused by the outcome of the FIA investigation on the power unit until midday. To begin with a year ago in Austria there wasn’t the power unit version which disappeared from Spa onwards. Moreover, from the depth of my declared technical ignorance, I doubt that in Spielberg you can lose a second per lap only due to the engine, on a circuit which is completed in just over a minute.
It doesn’t exist, it doesn’t make sense. Instead, there must be a number of factors. Unless you think that, with the diabolical alleged trick of the flow meter, Ferrari had subverted the laws of physics.
We will see what corrections will be made.
Don’t give up.
Maybe.”
