Italian sports journalist and author Leo Turrini, who is well-known for his sources within the Maranello team, confirmed that the Scuderia Ferrari technicians are confident ahead of the 2023 Formula 1 season because of one key aspect: the 2023 power unit should prove to be reliable, solving last year’s biggest problem for the F1-75 car, which had to run on track with limited power in the second part of the championship, due to the engine technical failures suffered in the first part of the 2022 Formula 1 season.
The “Maestro” Leo Turrini was interviewed by Pit Talk Radio and talked about what he “heard” regarding the SF-23, the Ferrari F1 single-seater for the 2023 campaign:
“Fred Vasseur has already stated that Ferrari is convinced they have solved the engine reliability problem, according to the data they have on the bench. Last year’s engine was amazing, but the Maranello technicians already knew of its fragility before the start of the season.” – the Italian sports journalist pointed out.
“The technical failures started already after four or five races, subsequently forcing the engineers to sacrifice the performance of the power unit in order to make the engines last longer. The staff led by Enrico Gualtieri is convinced that they have overcome the problem and that they can run from the very first race with an engine at maximum efficiency without risking any technical failures.” Obviously the competition won’t just stand on the side watching. Maybe Ferrari will have a reliable power unit and are convinced they have all the horsepower they need, I hope they don’t find themselves with opponents who simply have more. We’ll only find out by waiting for the first races.” – Ferrari insider Leo Turrini concluded.
