It took just a few months to move from theory to practice—or better said, from design plans on paper to reality. We are talking about Ferrari e-Vortex, the new test circuit that the Maranello company has just completed, after presenting the final project only last year. The new facility has been built right next to the Fiorano Circuit, well known to both fans and industry professionals. In just four months of work, the Prancing Horse completed a structure about two kilometres long, covering 37,000 square metres, marking a significant step forward that will improve the testing process for road cars as soon as they leave the production line.
At the forefront in every aspect
The new e-Vortex has been conceived, designed, and built to meet the most advanced needs emerging in the development and validation of road cars. The track allows for precise and repeatable testing, in full compliance with the highest safety standards. It is divided into several sections, each dedicated to a specific aspect of performance, in order to continuously refine driving dynamics and enjoyment. The layout includes two wide banked corners, a central straight, and handling curves for studying dynamic behaviour. In addition, the facility features special surface materials that will help carry out in-depth analyses of comfort and performance.
Everything in-house
The new building available to the Italian manufacturer will make it possible to progressively transfer testing activities from public roads to the track, ensuring more accurate performance assessments and faster identification of any anomalies. Bringing the testing process “in-house” will also help reduce the impact on traffic in the surrounding towns. Finally, the facility includes a new 1,000-square-metre workshop where static checks and quick interventions on the vehicles will be carried out, further optimizing internal operations and vehicle inspection.
In terms of numbers, the circuit measures 1,887 metres in length, covers a surface area of 37,351 square metres, and features a track width varying between 6 and 14 metres. The main straight is 600 metres long, and the workshop extends over 1,000 square metres.
