As can be seen in this photo gallery of the Scuderia Ferrari F1-75 car, the Maranello team has designed a ‘modular’ nose concept on the challenger for the 2022 Formula 1 season, an idea that has never been seen in Formula 1 until now.
Rather than having just one single nose section, the Italian side has decided to split its design into two separate elements, as noticed by motorsport.com immediately after the official presentation which took earlier today in Maranello.
Towards the main chassis, there is the structural element which is homologated to pass the mandatory FIA crash tests, that Ferrari easily passed since two months ago. But most importantly, forward of that is a complete separate part of the main nose profile which runs down to attach to the front wing. This can be seen in yellow in the image below.
Having this element separate to the homologated part means that Ferrari has the possibility and freedom to make any necessary changes and modify it without needing to go through the lengthy and costly process of fresh crash tests.

The modular design will allow it to react much quicker in terms of upgrades or tweaking the concept – ahead of a season in which every team will need to be ready for a big and constant development process. Furthermore, with top teams like Scuderia Ferrari having to work with a focus also on the cost cap limitations, having the possibility to easily tweak the nose design more efficiently will allow it to devote greater resources in other specific arias of the car.
As pointed out by motorsport.com, this solution could represent an advantage also as a result of the shorter front element in being able to change the front wing in races if there is damage.
As well as the radical modular nose, Ferrari has also introduced a very different design of front wing.
Rather than doing what other teams have done, with a relatively short mainplane element at the front, the Maranello team has introduced a much wider design.
