Ferrari, John Elkann paves the way
In Maranello nobody appreciated Ferrari’s stuttering start to the 2023 Formula One season, which began with aspirations of victory and is sadly turning out to be a disappointing year, without even a podium finish after the first three races, in Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and Australia.
The current fourth place in the constructors standings shows the clear difference in competitiveness as compared to rivals Red Bull and delivers on the table of Frederic Vasseur – the new team principal – the urgency of a more difficult reconstruction than expected. The French manager has already drawn up a development plan for the SF-23, which includes an initial package of aerodynamic updates to be taken to the track over the next two world rounds (in Baku and Barcelona).
Frederic Vasseur is always in close contact with Benedetto Vigna, CEO of the Prancing Horse and his contact person, and with John Elkann, the president. And the latter, in recent days through a letter to Exor shareholders, had revealed the plan to return to making the team successful: “Profound changes are underway within the walls of Maranello, in particular in terms of strengthening of sporting activity on the track “.
Up to now, the moves in the Ferrari organization chart had been limited to the transfer to other positions in the company, such as that of Spanish strategist Inaki Rueda, replaced by Ravin Jain, who was already present in Maranello; and the departure of aerodynamicist David Sanchez, who preferred to accept the challenge from McLaren, which prompted the promotion of Diego Tondi, another Ferrari internal resource.

But that’s not all, because, according to what Italian daily newspaper Corriere dello Sport has revealed today, Scuderia Ferrari moved on the market, securing two technicians from a rival team: “Two engineers have just been hired and have ceased their activity in Red Bull, they are in full gardening leave and will begin their activity in Maranello in 2024. But their names are not yet known, nor is it known how much difference they can make: after all, Scuderia Ferrari has hired thirty technicians in the last three years – even from top teams like Red Bull and Mercedes” – Corriere dello Sport pointed out.
