Scuderia Ferrari team principal Mattia Binotto admitted that he proud of the progress made by the Italian side, as Ferrari continues to recover from a 40-year low. The Maranello team started the 2021 Formula 1 season after a tough 2020 but was able to come back strong during the first half of the season, becoming McLaren’s main rival in the fight for third place in the Formula 1 Constructor Standings behind championship protagonists Mercedes and Red Bull.
After 12 races last term, Scuderia Ferrari had just 93 points to its name compared to 163 from 11 races this season: “Overall, if you look at the first half of the season we are pretty happy, we are progressing, the way we progressed last year. We are the team that relative to last year has scored more points, that has progressed most overall. It’s showing that we are going in the right direction and working well together.” – the Ferrari boss explained.
After Aston Martin’s Sebastian Vettel’s was disqualified from the Hungarian Grand Prix, the Maranello team is ahead of McLaren on countback of second-place finishes after Carlos Sainz was promoted to the podium at the Hungaroring circuit in the last race before the summer break. Mattia Binotto is very much aware that the intensity of battle increases the need to regather energy over the shutdown period.
“The summer break is important to get ready for a very intense second half of the season. We need to make sure we are prepared and ready for it.” – Scuderia Ferrari team principal Mattia Binotto concluded.
