Aston Martin’s appeal was reviewed earlier today by the FIA regarding Sebastian Vettel’s disqualification from the 2021 Hungarian Grand Prix at the Hungaroring circuit. After discussing the case via video teleconference, stewards dismissed Aston Martin’s petition for a review under article 14 of the FIA International Sporting Code.
This means that Sebastian Vettel has officially been disqualified and Scuderia Ferrari Spanish driver Carlos Sainz has been officially confirmed to finish in third place. At first, former Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel secured second place at the Hungaroring but at the end of the Budapeste event the FIA conducted checks and stated that Sebastian Vettel’s car did not have the mandatory minimum one-litre of fuel as defined in the technical regulations by Article 6.6.2.
The Aston Martin team was confident that they had 1.74 litres of petrol left in the tank. Sebastian Vettel’s car was then taken to a technical facility in France for further investigation until the final verdict which was confirmed today.
