A €100 fine has been imposed on Scuderia Ferrari following an incident in which Carlos Sainz exceeded the pit-lane speed limit during the qualifying session for the 2023 Formula 1 Dutch Grand Prix.
Due to the limited length of the pit lane at Zandvoort, the speed limit set for this weekend was a mere 60kph (37.2mph).
Amid the wet conditions of Q1, Sainz was found to have slightly surpassed the limit, recording a speed of 60.5kph (37.5mph) at the detection point.
Both Sainz and his teammate Charles Leclerc managed to progress into the Q3 pole shootout after facing challenges in the wet conditions, including multiple lock-ups at Turn 1 during the final practice.
Nevertheless, with just four minutes remaining in Q3, Leclerc encountered a significant crash. He lost control due to understeer, veering off track and making substantial impact with the left side of his SF-23 against the barrier. This incident led to a red flag being waved.
