Scuderia Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc’s charge to second place in the British Grand Prix helped the Italian side cut the gap to McLaren in the championship down to 15 points, having come within three laps of winning the grand prix. Charles ultimately crossed the line 25 seconds clear of leading McLaren driver Lando Norris, who took fourth ahead of team-mate Daniel Ricciardo. It marked a big turnaround in the Maranello team’s form after both Charles Leclerc and team-mate Carlos Sainz Jr had struggled with tyre management in France last month, breathing added life into the scrap for third.
According to information collected by Formu1a.uno sources, in view of the next round of the 2021 Formula 1 season, the Hungarian Grand Prix, Scuderia Ferrari has begun to be more aggressive on the power unit front in terms of energy recovery.
As recently reported by the Italian media, according to the initial plans there was room to implement the performance of the hybrid part from the Hungarian Grand Prix through new specifications which have improved reliability that could guarantee a small step forward in terms of energy storage and use, namely the possibility to use it for a little bit longer during the lap. This is a very important task in view of 2022 because the introduction of fuel with 10% ethanol seems to reduce the power of the Internal Combustion Engine on the bench by about 5% with the same consumption.
In Budapest everyone will have to go with a maximum downforce configuration, oad; with a normal weekend we will have more elements to interpret how much improvement the Mercedes has made as compared to its rival, shile we will also see Ferrari that will arrive once again with a low profile, but a Maranello team that will be silently hoping to be be able to fight for something more than the ‘normal’ positions behind Red Bull and Mercedes.
