Incidents of fights and attacks on fans have arisen from Mexico, where some spectators targeted Ferrari fans after the incident involving Charles Leclerc and Sergio Perez at the start of the 2023 Formula 1 Mexican Grand Prix and the punishment is severe.
As the traffic lights went out, the two Ferrari SF-23 cars, starting from the front row, were challenged by the two Red Bulls. Max Verstappen managed to overtake the two red cars from Maranello without significant issues, but the same cannot be said for Sergio Perez.
With perhaps excessive optimism, Checo attempted to overtake Charles Leclerc on the outside of turn 1. The contact was a consequence for which the Ferrari driver was not at fault. However, the home favorite had to concede, and upon returning to the pits, he chose to retire from the Mexico City Grand Prix.
At that moment, tempers flared in the stands, and some spectators attacked Ferrari fans. The punishment is exemplary; it appears that the individuals involved in the violent act were immediately ejected from the racetrack. Furthermore, the culprits of the act are said to have received a lifetime ban.
