Fred Vasseur’s position is becoming more complicated: according to BILD, Ferrari is reportedly looking at Christian Horner for the role of team principal in F1.
Ferrari is going through a major crisis in F1: Frédéric Vasseur’s position is under threat, and there have been “informal” contacts with Christian Horner. The Prancing Horse is reportedly targeting the current Red Bull team principal, whose contract expires in 2026. The report, directly from Bild, mentions an initial approach a few weeks ago, likely in Miami or Imola, and nothing has been decided yet.
Just a few months ago, it seemed unthinkable: Frédéric Vasseur, the “chef” who was supposed to bring Ferrari back to success, could leave Maranello. These are unconfirmed whispers with no official validation from those directly involved. Moreover, recent performances from the SF-25 – including the comeback in Imola and the podium finish in Monte Carlo – seem to have slightly eased the pressure on the Frenchman.
In any case, John Elkann does not appear to be fully satisfied with the on-track results. The coming weeks will be crucial for the future of the Scuderia. The key moment will undoubtedly be Spain: it is in Barcelona that, with the introduction of the technical directive, the shape of the championship will become clearer. If the Prancing Horse fails to close the gap to McLaren, efforts could be definitively redirected to 2026.
Ferrari calls Horner, but the Briton wants to stay at Red Bull
For some time now, insiders have been discussing Frédéric Vasseur’s increasingly difficult position. For the leadership in Maranello – which at times may be too withdrawn – fighting for third or fourth place in the standings does not seem to be enough. And if the “Italian culture of scapegoating” – as Mattia Binotto called it – resurfaces at Ferrari, then the team principal could indeed be replaced.
According to the report by Matthias Marburg in Bild, there have been “informal” contacts with Christian Horner in recent weeks. It was an initial approach to test the waters with the British manager, whose contract ends in 2026. The current Red Bull team principal is himself in a precarious position: after Miami, some sources were confident he would leave Milton Keynes before Imola.
Whatever the truth, one thing is certain (and even Bild confirms it): Christian Horner does not want to come to Italy. More specifically, he reportedly wishes to remain at Red Bull for the long term, thus rejecting any attempt from Ferrari management.
