Hamilton–Ferrari, are the “notes” disliked by engineers returning?
Lewis Hamilton has revealed that he has once again taken detailed notes on “aspects to improve” within the team, yet not everyone inside Ferrari appears enthusiastic about his feedback. The relationship between Hamilton and Ferrari is not in question, but the on-track performance has not followed the same positive trend — and now, new “notes” are reportedly on the way as the seven-time world champion pushes for change. During the Qatar weekend, Lewis Hamilton explained that he has written down several areas that must be corrected if Ferrari wants to return to the top. This behaviour is nothing new from the British driver: at the start of the year he had already sent a dossier to Maranello, and it seems that not everyone within the team appreciated it.
The season was supposed to be the turning point, the year Ferrari finally returned to the fight for the very front. Instead, 2025 has become a nightmare in broad daylight for the Scuderia — still winless in Grands Prix (besides Lewis Hamilton’s Sprint Race victory in Shanghai) and now firmly stuck in fourth place in the Constructors’ Championship. The result is particularly disappointing considering that Frédéric Vasseur had redefined Ferrari’s goals, targeting at least the runner-up position behind McLaren.
The upcoming technical revolution offers a genuine opportunity to reset the team’s direction, but several internal habits may need to change. That is exactly what Lewis Hamilton believes, as he has spent the entire year seeking discussions with the decision-makers in Maranello. His objective is reportedly to bring to Italy some of the working methods he learned in Woking and Brackley — but not everyone within the Scuderia seems ready to pull in the same direction.
Hamilton: “There are many things we need to improve”
Among Ferrari’s top engineers, there are said to be a few who remain reluctant to welcome Lewis Hamilton’s suggestions. Even his first dossiers earlier in the season apparently caused some discomfort, but the driver from Stevenage has no intention of backing down. In his view, Ferrari needs a structural shift, and something must change before next year begins.
In Qatar, Lewis Hamilton reinforced his stance: “This has been the most difficult year of my career, inside and outside of the car. I have so many notes on things we need to improve. Only time will tell whether we’ve acted on them or not. We need to hold onto the things that work and change the things that don’t, and there are a lot of them. There’s no reason not to fix these problems. I hope, and I expect, progress.”
With the team already preparing for the massive regulation changes of 2026, Lewis Hamilton’s push for internal evolution is becoming increasingly central to Ferrari’s project — even if it risks creating tension behind the scenes.
Abu Dhabi this weekend will be the final act of a painful chapter. The real story starts when those famous red notebooks are finally turned into on-track performance.
